Athy
Athy is situated in south Kildare, is a market
town on the convergence of the River Barrow and the Grand
Canal. The town developed from a 12th century Anglo
Norman settlement to an important military outpost on the
border of the pale. The town hall was constructed in the
early 18th Century. The Grand canal was completed in
1791, and the arrival of the railway in 1846, illustrates
the importance of the town as a commercial centre. Athy
also has course Salmon and Trout fishing on the Grand
canal and the river Barrow.
The Town
The heritage town of Athy, hosts a number of
golf clubs including the world famous Kilkee Castle, Athy Supports a lot of good quality restaurants, pubs, and
hotels, with ceol and crack.
There is plenty to do or
nothing to do, or, just relax in our Barbecue area on the
banks of the river barrow.
